  • We will be revoking your status as a First Nation.

  • We will be taking this land.
  • In 1876 the Indian Act was created, it was made for First Nations to lose their culture.
  • 3
  • If you marry a man with no status you will lose your status.
  • You will now be permitted to practice your ceremonies.
  • The Act was changed many times during the late 1900s,  They made kids go to residential schools and made illegal to practice their religious ceremonies.

  • Using this "white Paper" I will now revoke your culture.
  • They had also made it difficult for the First Nations to keep their land and statuses.

  • We will now be passing the "First Nations Land Management Act" for you to keep your land.
  • After the second war, the Act was changed once again.  The changed Act allowed the First Nations to practice their religious ceremonies and bring their land claims to court.  They also allowed for women to vote, although the women can still lose their titles if they marry a man of no status.
  • 1969 brought up the "White Paper" saying that the First Nations can lose their status, this would mean The First Nations would lose many of their rights and benefits, but to counter the "White Paper", but Harold Cardinal issued the "Red Paper" and it made The Trudeau Government back down.
  • This "Red Paper" rejects your proposal.
  • In 1980s the Indian Act was changed once again, after receiving complaints that it was a violation of human rights, but to change it the Government passed Bill-31 and gave status to many First nations who were denied.  In the end the Indian Act still exists today although The federal Government passed the "First Nations Land Management Act" which gave the First Nations a little more power.
