As Bruno is exploring he finds himself meeting Shumel. A young boy that is hungry and is behind fences. But only stays for a little of time and leaves because of a sound that rang. Bruno promises that the next day he will take Shumel some bread.
We are the opposite of the Jews.
Bruno packs bread for Shumel the next day. He almost gets caught by his mother. His mother prohibits Bruno to go to the back but Bruno still goes.
Both of the young boys have a conversation and become closer.
I'll come back tomorrow.

Bruno and his sister Gretel have a tutor and learn about history and geography. Bruno is determined that not all Jews are bad people.
Brunos mom notices it smells weird a afternoon coming back from groceries. She looks up and sees there's smoke in the sky. She is disappointed and talks to her husband about arrangements for Bruno, Gretel, and herself to move because she didn't want her kids closes to what was going on.
Bruno finds out he will be moving and runs to tell Shumel. They both agree that they don't want to leave each other so they make a plan so they can stay together.
