In this scene, guy meets a woman names Clarisse while walking down the street at night. They began talking and guy had noticed that she was different from everyone else. It wasn’t just small talk that they were having, they were talking about actual meaningful things. ″'Bet I know something else you don't. There's dew on the grass in the morning. ' He suddenly couldn't remember if he had known this or not, and it made him quite irritable.” Guy had realized he has never thought about deeper meanings before and he liked how she did.
Mildred tells on guy and guy kills Beatty
This scene was especially important to this book. Clarisse had began to mean something to guy and he loved talking to her because she was like no one else. When she passed away because she had books, guy was devastated. He couldn’t stop thinking about how they just killed an innocent lovely lady for no reason other than the fact that she owned books. Guy really started to hate his job and couldn’t get himself to work as a firefighter anymore. But Clarisse’s favorite subject wasn’t herself. It was everyone else, and me. She was the first person in a good many years I’ve really liked. She was the first person I can remember who looked straight at me as if I counted.
Guy runs away and everyone is trying to find him
For individuality, I chose guy. I chose guy because he has shown on many different occasions that he likes to think for himself. He has a mind of his own and wont let other peoples opinions affect him or change his opinion. Guy went against the whole society just to be his own individual.
Conformity
For conformity, I chose Mildred. I chose Mildred because she acts as if she’s being controlled and is very wrapped up in her technology. She thinks how everyone else thinks and does not have any desire to think or act her own way.
