- When Great Britain refuses to leave Ohio Vally, France wants US to join them in a war vs. England. Instead GW decides to make a treaty with GB to leave Ohio Vally. But France thinks this violates the old treaty with the US and France, There response is capturing 300+ US ships.

- President Adams sends three representatives to France to ask the French to end the attacks. The French Ministor however refused to talk with the Americans, so the representatives were instead met with secret anents known as X,Y, and Z. The agents said that no peace talk will be held unless they receive a large sum of money. The US refuses.

- after receiving Frances demands, Adams builds up an army to retaliate against the French. America then starts capturing over 80 of Frances ships. Adams wants to make peace with France to avoided war. And the French are afraid to lose power so they negotiate peace with America.
