Throughout the world, historical events can and have affected food habits in the world, such as financial crisis' and famines
Such as the Great Famine in Ireland, which was a 5-year period of mass starvation and disease in Ireland
The main cause that started this famine was a potato blight, which is a fungi that affects potatoes, which infected potato crops throughout europe during the 1840s
Another example of this is starvation of people in Germany after WW1. The economy collapsed and a loaf of bread had risen to 200,000 marks from 250 in a few months in 1923.
These events will affect diets and health concerns for people suffering from these events. some peoples' diets are limited to bread and dirty water for months at times.
People that suffer from this starvation and poor diets have gained permanent issues and health concerns.
Dairy and milk farmers also struggled, because the combination of no rain and the prices of milk not increasing in stores, made more than half of the farmers broke in the Christmas of 2018
in 2019, Australia also had to import wheat for the first time in 12 years because of the drought.
Droughts will also affect the farmland and production of cost. Farmers in Australia in 2017-2019 struggled and thousands of people lost jobs due to lack of rain for farming.
Thank you!
