We don't sell main floor tickets to you people.
How low of a human being can someone be.
On November 8th, 1946 was on a buisness trip, but her car broke down in Glasgow Nova Scotia.
You can't sit here.
She decided to pass time by going to the movie theatre in the evening to treat herself. As she goes to pay for her movie theatre ticket, the worker there tells her she cannot purchase the main floor movie theatre ticket. This is due to "the whites only" floor.
Viola Desmond feels slightly upset from the situation and what she was told, but she still ends up going to sit on the main floor.
One LONG Night Later..
From my knowledge, it results that Viola Desmond is found guity.
The manager is called, and the police officer goes to tap her by her shoulder to let her know she couldn't sit where she was. She stood up for herself and tried to convince them that she could stay where she was, but instead the police officer grabbed her, dragged her out of the movie theatre, and threw her in jail.
But I bought a movie theatre ticket!
She spent the night in jail for TWELVE hours! She was beyond disappointed for being treated like this. This all happened just because she was black.
You'll be staying here for the next twelve hours.
Jail..?
The next day, she went to court and was found guilty. She was told that she didn't pay the movie theatre tax meanwhile the actual reason was due to her skin colour. Sixty-three years later, her story inspired many people and the Nova Scotia's civil rights movement. She was found on newspapers, and talked about in Canada. In the end, she turned out to be one of Canada's most powerful black women in history.
