In the Battle of Lake Erie, an American naval force under Oliver Hazard Perry defeated and captured a British fleet that had 6 ships on Lake Erie. This victory aided William Henry Harrison to push into upper Canada, defeating the British and Cheif Tecumseh in a major battle.
While the White House and other buildings burn due to the British, Dolly Madison rushed in to recover important documents to make sure that they weren't burned up with the rest of the White House.
About 2 weeks after the Treaty of Ghent was signed indicating that the war was over, the battle of New Orleans took place with General Andrew Jackson leading it. Jackson and his ragtag army of about 7,000 defeated the British who had about 7,500 or more. It was even rumored that an alligator with a cannonball fought on Jackson's side and helped them win the battle.
