It is time for Travis to get up for school. Ruth wants him to get up so he can quickly get into the bathroom. Many people share that bathroom and she soon will wake up her husband to do the same so he´s not late for work.

Travis has asked his mom for fifty cents for school and Ruth tells him they don´t have the money. Walter walks in and ends up giving him the money that they did actually have.

During this scene, Walter was trying to tell Ruth want he wanted the money in check to go towards. Ruth wouldn't listen to him because she didn't like his idea. Walter kept yelling at her saying that she should be a better wife and listen to her.

Ruth and Mama are giving Beneatha a hard time about what she wants to do. She has chosen many different hobbies in the past and hasn't stuck with one yet.

Walter only want the money for himself and Mama tries to talk to him that there was more in life than just money.
