The author describes Maple Street. He conveys it as a happy street with people relaxing on their porches and kids playing in their yard. Everything is as close to perfect as can get.
Climax
Suddenly there is a roar and a flash of light. The neighbors are talking suggesting what might have happened. What was it a meteor? And just out of nowhere pandemonium begins.
Falling Action
Then things stop working. Lights, lawnmowers, even cars. To check on other streets, Steve and Mr. Brand go off to see how other areas were affected. People start growing suspicious when Les Goodman's car starts up on its own. How come Les's car is the only thing that works this is when it get crazy.
Resolution
The climax is where the majority of the action takes place. Once everything stops working people are looking for answers. That's when the little boy Tommy suggests that an extra-terrestrial is causing the trouble, no one believes him and people start placing blame. As his car is the only thing that works he is the first. Throughout the night new suspects arise, out of nowhere there is a shadowed figure approaching. Scared that it might be an alien, Charlie shoots.
It was him his car is the only one that works
After a while of arguing, a lot of people were most suspicious of Charlie. He was so quick to kill and he immediately had placed blame. Soon a mob had formed. Throwing rocks and screaming.
In the end it shows two aliens in a space ship. They are discussing how easily humans will turn on each other. This foreshadows that they were responsible for all of the problems.
Well that was easy
