The reproduction system has various organs that all play a vital role in the body! Join me along this storyboard as I describe both the male and female reproductive system.
Reproduction
REPRODUCTIVE CELLS
TESTIS
Reproduction can be made simple by following the development and path of reproductive cells.
VAS DEFERENS
Sperm cells are the male reproductive cells formed in the testes. Sperm production in the testes takes place in coiled structures called seminiferous tubules. An egg is the female reproductive cell formed in the ovaries.
PROSTATE
The testes are linked to the rest of the male reproductive organs by the vas deferens, which extends over the base of the pelvic bone or ilium, and wraps around to the ampulla, seminal vesicle, and prostate. Their function is to produce the sperm.
SEMINAL VESICLES
The vas deferens is a long tube that connects the epididymis and the urethra. In the vas deferens the sperm is propelled forward by smooth muscle contractions as the penis is stimulated.
The prostate gland is a milky fluid that is added to sperm. The prostate secretes an alkaline fluid that neutralizes the acids in the female reproductive system.
Seminal vesicles produce a fluid that sperm use for energy. This fluid will be combined with sperm cells to make semen.
