  • Hey everyone!
  • YAYYY
  • INTERESTING🤔
  • Today we will talk about Primary and Secondary succession
  • Welcome to todays Books+Cookies
  • WHAT!
  • Did you know that in summer of 1988 Yellow Stone National Park had fires raging?
  • THERE IS NO WAY
  • Yeah! Large areas were burnt to the ground and once all the fires were out grey ash blanketed the ground.
  • Many dead trees fell over. Green plants were growing very quick in large amounts.
  • woah
  • In 1988 scientists reported that the forest was growing back
  • The regrowth of a burnt area is called succesion
  • Communitys can grow in places that no other organism has lived before there is no soil in these areas and is usually just bare rock
  • SO INTERSTING!!
  • over time species will live and die on a rock the rock is then slowly turned into soil. This is called primrary succesion!
  • Jill we should go explore primary succesion after this
  • the first species to live in these place are called pioneer species- a pioneer species is a species that colonises an uninhabitated are and starts succesion
  • Sometimes a community is destroyed by a natural disaster. Other times it could be something else
  • Huh! Not to bad
  • if soil is left intact the original community could regrow through a series of stages called secondary succesion
  • THANKYOU EVERYONE
  • WOW!!! That was really interesting
