- Throughout the day, Brenna has kept her head down, not wanting to be embarrassed. Finally, Brenna has ended up in the last class of the day:English 1
- What if the teacher doesn’t like me? What if I fail this class? What if I never make friends? That girl is looking at me, is she judging me?

- English 1
- Hi! I'm Dylann.
- Uhm....
- Glide: 5
- English 1
- It's okay to be shy, I used to be too. Do you want to help me decorate this poster for Art?
- Uhm...
- Okay...
- Glide: 6
- As the teacher continues reading, Dylann and Brenna work on the poster together. They pass it back and forth between desks, swapping pens and markers.
- I'm Brenna by the way.
- It's nice to meet you.
- Glide: 7
- A few days later in English class, Brenna needs to ask her teacher about a key detail on their upcoming project.
- I need to do well on this project, but I’m scared to ask him a question. What if he thinks I’m stupid? What should I do?
- Glide: 8
- With hesitation, Brenna stands up, determined for an answer, but uncertain she can ask the question.
- It'll be worse if I do nothing, and fail. I can at least try.
- Glide: 9
- Once Brenna asks the question, the teacher talks with her about ways she can be creative with her project, and how she can receive a good grade.
- Glide: 10
- Once back in her seat, Brenna gets started right away on her project changes. She feels confident about being able to take the first step towards a challenge.

- Senior Year
- Hi Dylann!
- Hey Brenna!
- The first day of school

- Last class of the Day: English 1100.Brenna takes a seat next to a girl she doesn't know.

- Hi, I'm Brenna!
- Uhm...
- I hope she doesn't give homework for tonight. I already have so much.
- Same. Teachers just like to pile it on.
- Glide: 15
- The end of the period
- I'm Maya by the way.
- It's nice to meet you.
- She added a project. Do you maybe want to go to the library and study with me?
- That would be fun!

- After she asks Maya to wait outside for her, Brenna walks up to the teacher with a question. She has a question about the writing project that was just assigned. She doesn't hesitate to voice her question.
- Hi Miss. Widman! I just have a small question regarding the assignment.
- Glide: 17
- Significance: This comic strip is meant to demonstrate the concept of growing up. Not only does growing up look different for everybody, but it encompasses how each and every person overcomes challenges. In my life, I struggled with being comfortable in new environments and with meeting new people. Once I had finally taken the first step into many different challenges, I opened up a world of possibilities. Growing up is about stepping out of your comfort zone. It’s about developing the bravery and social skills to go through life. Growing up is all about seeing the challenge head on, and taking "The First Step".
