  • DAY 1
  • Hey! Come let's go for a smoke
  • Uh, alrighton one condition.Answer the next question or you have do one thing i say
  • DAY 1
  • Who invented cigarettes? If you can't answer me, you have to give me 100 rupees for every cigarette you smoke
  • Ummmm, that's a tough one. I have no ideaOh shit this about to get expensive
  • DAY 2
  • This is my third cigarette of the day. Having to pay Dev for each one is taking the fun out of this! I think my need to smoke arises purely out of wanting to fit in. I need to stop!!!!!
  • Dev is facing an Extrinsic need to fit in with his new friend group at college. He never smoked before and only does so when in companySmoking is clearly an acquired need that Dev has developed.
  • DAY 7
  • Okay i'm going to hold up my part of the deal. Here's 1600 for each one i've smoked. I don't thunk i can continue doing this anymore. do you have any ideas to help me stop?
  • Hahaha, he has no idea this was all part of my plan. I have collected all the money in this ''Quit smoke Jar"
  • Arjun used the positive punishment concept by presenting an unfavourable outcome (paying 100 rupees) following undesirable behaviour (smoking) By using this, he wishes Dev would realise the real reasons why he started smoking.
  • DAY 8
  • Let's go buy nicotine patches. I understand nicotine withdrawal can be difficult to deal with so why don't try to replace smoking a cigarette with nicotine patches to reduce the nicotine levels in your body to eventually QUIT
  • Every time Dev smokes a cigarette, the 100 rupees he has promised Arjun for each cigarette reduces the positive emotions he experiences from smoking and makes him think about WHY and from WHERE this need arises.
  • 6 WEEKS LATER
  • Thank you so much for being a real friend and having my back when i got swayed away. I don't feel the need to smoke anymore and i'm so grateful!
  • Arjun used the concept of the "swear jar" where he collected the money Dev gave him so that when he was ready they could use the same to buy Nicotine patches, an alternative method.
  • Nicotine patches provide a source of nicotine that reduces the withdrawal symptoms experienced when smoking is stopped.
  • Dev recognises that his need to smoke arose out of the need for power and affiliation. His motivation to smoke was produced as a result of an unfulfilled need of belonging and to acquire the status of being "cool".Nicotine patch therapy helped him reduce his nicotine consumption over time and lead a healthier lifestyle.
