The Importance of Using Multiple Literacies

Storyboard Tekst

  • ??
  • Everybody please take your seat, we are about to begin todays lesson on multiple literacies
  • ???
  • reading and writing
  • understanding the meaning of letters, numbers, and symbols
  • First of all, can anyone tell me what literacy is? ......Can someone give me some examples? All were great examples, good thing there are plenty of examples right here in our own school, which you may have never considered. Let's go and get a hands on experience!LET's GO!!!
  • The ability to learn or understand through a picture or video.
  • to translate the meaning of things.
  • The ability of being able to communicate with people
  • Lets begin here in the theatre room, where emotions and understanding are portrayed in multiple forms of literacy...Who can come up with an example?
  • Recognizing and relating to gestures that are being portrayed on stage.
  • The actors adapting and portraying a specific person or character.
  • One type of literacy that I want to mention is Imagery, the actors are recreating a story, which you are putting together in your head and analyzing the information.
  • Plenty of visual representation
  • reading facial expressions
  • Understanding the plays and everyone's role on the team
  • actively communicating with others or teammates
  • Now lets go to a place were all pretty familiar with the gym.Can anyone think of any literacies that can be represented through sports or physical activities?
  • to participate with passion, know how it feels to win or lose
  • pre match exercises and prep that will help you succeed.
  • Great examples! I can tell some of you have had personal experiences.Have you ever considered the image you create of your opponent or goal at hand? What about learning to exert and distribute your energy? What about playing to the benefits/assets of players or participants so they contribute better?
  • Good examples! What about harmonies, or being in sync or in tune with others in the band. How about understanding the gestures the director, singer, or musician is representing on stage. What about all the diverse instruments are represented, and what role they play as a whole to the group
  • Now we come to a place that some might not be so familiar with, the music room. It can be commonly overlooked, but do you realize how much literacy is represented through the interpretation, style, and design of music?Any examples?
  • Truly engaging in the music, comparing and contrasting with others
  • Just like in the theatre room, what about the image the composer/music is representing, and the image in your own head
  • Knowing how to read music
  • what the change in speed/tempo represents in the music
  • Understanding different jobs/roles of others in the community.
  • How to react and communicate, and so call read the "vibe" of the room and adapt properly
  • Finally, we come to our last stop in exploring multiple literacies, the REAL WORLD! One cannot underestimate the amount of different literacies that we experience everyday in our lives. Any examples?
  • What is socially acceptable to society
  • One of my favorites is the development of "street smarts", that you learn and develop on your own without even noticing! What goes into the development of a building, how did the architect/engineer construct and deliver their message to other workers. Again, literacy and communication is present in every example or experience you will come across, thanks for your involvement today, I hope it was beneficial now back to class!
