  • Homer was born in New Orleans, Louisina. His family was of mixed racial heritage, considering himself 1/8 black since his great-grandmother was from africa. Plessy was a shoemaker at age 25. Plessy was Vice President for Justice, Educational and Protective etc. to reform Orleans Public Education.
  • Plessy's activism happened in response to Louisiana passing a law for segregating public places in 1890. He bought a first class ticket, sat on a white only train and didnt move causing him to spend time in jail and $500 bail.
  • the Supreme Court had struck down the 1875 act, so that the 14th Amendment didn´t give Congress authority to prevent discrimination by private individuals. It would have had a better effect and many people played a role.
