- Grandpa, in geography class today we were looking at Jamaica's vision 2030 and the various measures they have put forward to reduce change and also the role of non government organizations. Seeing that you are always watching the news grandpa and you are quite aware of what's going on in our environment what are your views?
- My darling Mary, you have come to the right person. Of course I am well aware of the various measures our government of Jamaica has promised to put in place to reduce climate change in their vision 2030 and also many other NGOs.
- Based on Jamaica's, vision 2030 Jamaica is not only looking at strategies it can use to reduce climate change from occurring but they also look at measures which they can use to mitigate against the effects of climate change.
- So grandpa reduction strategies would have been where they have promised that by 2030 they would have addressed land use changes and forestry emissions to reduce green house gases by 25.4. while a mitigating strategy would have been to use alternative energy sources such as hydro electricity? 
- That is correct Mary however it goes even deeper according to vision 2030, the government aims to ensure that the natural environment is quite safe for not only your generation but also the ones coming after you. So they have other strategies such as sensitizing the public on climate change hence why you are learning about it at school, afforestation, investing heavily in climate change research by its best scientists, adaptation plans and getting help form MDC's to assist.
- Wow, Grandpa now I realize why you  are so interested in the news. But what about my other question grandpa? how are NGO's responding to climate change?
- To be completely honest with you young one NGOs had been completely silent on the matter until only 2 years ago in the peak of the pandemic. They realize the threat of climate change and NGOs such as the Caribbean community climate change Centre (CCCCC) has become pivotal players in the fight against climate change. They share the similar goal of carbon reduction through carpooling, proper recycling,  public participation and collaboration and increasing public education and awareness.
- Really, thank you grandpa I have learnt so many new things today, but I have an important question grandpa do you believe that this is all talk or have you seen enough to believe that there is action behind of it all to ensure vision 2030 is a success?
- Well Mary ever since I was small my mother always told me never count your eggs before they hatch or slow and steady wins the race. Personally I believe that the government is doing all it can to achieve vison 2030 however, it might be a case where some of the goals they would have set out at first might not be as achievable as they they think based on the resources which they have at their disposal but nothing beats a trial but a failure. I have also seen many instances where indeed since the inception of vison 2030 the public has been more aware of climate change than before and they are making efforts by even reducing the amount of plastic bags we utilize and the introduction of recycle bins in public spaces.
- I understand grandpa but for the sustainability of not only our planet but also our country I hope that we will at least reach close to our goals. Before I go grandpa could you provide me with some reading sources as I would really like to learn all that I can about vision 2030 and Jamaica's response to climate change.
