- Hello, I'm May, I was the one who approached you yesterday. Can I ask your name again?
- Oh, you’re Nika, I’ll try not to forget your name. By the way, I am one of the Mental Health counselors you can talk to here at the evacuation site.
- Umm… is it okay for you to tell me what happened during the house fire? You can start any time, whenever you feel comfortable.
- Umm.. I'm Nika.
- *nods and attentively listens*
- About the... house fire.... Um.... things were normal that day not until... umm... I was surprised when I saw something was burning in our kitchen.
- I didn't hesitate trying to put out the fire.. because.... I thought I could do it. But... the fire spread quickly! I was extremely terrified at that time... I didn't know what to do, I... I.. I became too overwhelemed. Then.. all of a sudden.. I felt like... my... whole body froze and I couldn't move.
- I feel like I just back to my consciousness when I was already inside the ambulance.
- After that, I can't remember what happened next. No matter how hard I try to... remember every bits... every moment.. I just... I just can't. Not only that.... it seemed like my... my body suddenly took control over my whole system.
- I just really... I... I can't recall how my body managed to get out safely...
- I’m so sorry for what happened to you. I can imagine how much pain and sadness you feel right now, with everything that you've gone through.
- You can be at ease, now that you’re already in a safe place.
- If ever you need someone to talk to or you have any further concerns, don't hesitate to approach me. I’ll aid you as much as I could, also as a PFA responder.

- I just want you to know that your reaction to your considered traumatic situation was normal. The house fire did cause you so much fear and you've experience the flight or freeze response which is quite normal to disaster victims like you.
