Zeke Upchurch Fever 1793

Fever 1793 is a story about a 14-year-old girl named Mattie who suffered the hardships of Yellow Fever. My favorite scene was when Mattie attacked the robbers. Grandfather and Mattie had just returned to the coffeehouse. Grandfather was feeling weak, so he went to bed early. Mattie slept downstairs because of the heat. Robbers broke into the coffeehouse. Mattie was sleeping and heard footsteps. Mattie looked up and saw two men. They entered the room and started scavenging around. One picked up Grandfather’s sword, and Mattie screamed. Grandfather came downstairs. He shot his rifle at the robbers. One of them ran off, and the other beat up Grandfather. Mattie picked up the sword and gashed the robber. This scene is important to the story because it shows how dangerous Philadelphia has become due to yellow fever. It is also important because it shows how Mattie felt for her grandfather.
