The kids went to the jail to go look for Atticus and when they saw him outside and cars pulled up and men came out, they were arguing with Atticus because he was protecting Tom Robinson who was inside and the mob of men wanted to hurt him.

In this scene the kids are not in the group with all the mob and Atticus Scout senses the vibe could be dangerous for her father so she starts making conversation with Mr. Cunningham to make him stop what he is trying to do which is kill Tom Robinson, he leaves with the mob after Scout's words.

The kids leave with Atticus back home after all that just happened, Dill was quiet the whole time but offered to carry the chair, him and Scout were behind Jem and Atticus, and Scout thought her father was giving Jem a hard time but he actually showed him affection.
