Brian is going to northern Canada to visit his father. he has never been on a plane before and right before he left his mom gave him a hatchet. He was going on a tiny propeller plane. He was riding in the front seat next to the pilot.
chapter 4
Brian realizes that there is nothing he can do for the pilot, as he doesn't know CPR. He tries to think of any ideas on how to fly the plane. He realizes that he cannot fly it. So he uses the radio to ask for help.
chapter 5
The plane is going down, and Brian is panicking. As the plane gets closer to the ground, Brian loses sight of the lakes that he had seen the entire trip. His plan was to land the plane on the shore of a lake, so he desperately needed one. All he saw at this point were trees.
chapter 6
In a dream state, Brian recalls every detail of the incident in which he discovers "The Secret." He had been riding his bike with his friend Terry when he saw his mother in a strange car, kissing a man with short blonde hair.
Brian wakes up with an intense thirst. He drinks the lake water even though he is not sure if he should. He tries to get his mind together and understand what has happened. He takes stock of the items he has on him, which includes a hatchet.
Brian tries and fails to make fire by rubbing sticks together. Giving up, he decides to try to close in part of the overhang to make a better shelter. Using dead branches, he spends the afternoon covering the front of the overhang to make a wall and doorway.
