The origin of the Magna Carta leads us back to the year 1215. King John is the ruler of the land. Many people didn't like him, for his ways and doings were very wrong. He even imprisoned his former wife!
Off to jail!

His greediness was larger than others, as he LOVED taxing people to the limit and stealing their houses (even castles!) if they didn't comply. The barons that owned the land were stripped of their belongings just so King John could fuel his selfish desires.
That's a mighty-fine castle. Shame it wont be yours!
King John fought many wars only for the gain of money. He derived necessities from his people and sold them for money. King John was living the dream, but the people had enough...
BOW DOWN TO YOUR ONLY KING!
The people were MAD and they wanted their stuff back. So they revolted and forced King John to do what they say.
Comply with the people or go to jail!
KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!
The people made him sign a document called the Magna Carta. It said that whatever the King says, the people had to have a say about it.
Dang people making me do this...
Things were much better after the Magna Carta was created and signed. Fewer people were in prison and they lived in harmony. The Magna Carta lives on for 600 years and has influenced plenty of famous figures in the present that fight for democracy and freedom.
