The Tale of Fredrick Douglass

Storyboard Tekst

  • The Childhood of Frederick Douglass
  • Frederick Douglass was born a slave sometime in the 1800's. He worked on a plantation in Maryland. He had to work many long hours in the fields. He never knew his father and never had a good relationship with his mother, like most slaves in that time.
  • When Frederick was 7 years old, Mr. and Mrs. Auld, who lived in Baltimore, asked Frederick's master to have Frederick come work for them. They wanted him to take care of their little boy Thomas.
  • Life at the Auld's was much better then Frederick expected, but Mrs. and Mr. Auld were like sweet and sour. Mrs. Auld had never owned slaves before, so she treated him like an equal. On the other hand, Mr. Auld was very stern and strict.
  • Mrs. Auld asked Frederick if he could read. "No ma'am." Frederick replied. To him, words were just swimming across the page. So Mrs. Auld decided to teach Frederick how to read. Little did she know that she was changing this little boy's life forever.
  • One morning, Mrs. Auld was reading with Frederick when Mr. Auld walked in. " What do you think your doing!" He exclaimed. " What could be wrong with teaching a child how to read?" Mrs. Auld said. " Frederick is nothing but a curious little fawn."
