After the Vizier warns the king that the doctor is planning on killing him, he tells him the tale of King Sindbad and the Falcon which was about a Persian King who had a falcon who he loved and cared for. After a day of hunting, the king was thirsty and wanted a drink from a tree trunk he found. But after attempting to take sips of the water, the falcon kept knocking the water over. Out of anger, the king cut off both of the falcon's wings, only to realize that a serpent was spitting poison into the water the king was trying to drink, the king was devastated.(N.J. Dawood, Pg.93) It was a hot day and the King, who by this time had become faint with thirst, went to search for water. (N.J Dawood, pg.93) Allah curse you for a bird of ill omen! He struck the falcon with his sword and cut off both its wings.
Even after the Vizier is warning the king about the doctor's murder attempt, The king is convinced it is the physician who wants to kill him. The king orders the physician to be beheaded. The physician begins to plead saying, Spare me and Allah will spare you! KIll me, and so shall Allah kill you! The king was brought a platter and the doctor brought him a strange powder and a book. After opening the book, and finding nothing, the king soon realizes he was tricked and he had just been poisoned.(N.J Dawood, Pg.95) The doctor bowed low before the King; in one hand he held an ancient book, and in the other a little bowl filled with strange powder. (N.J Dawood, Pg.96) The King had not turned six pages when posion began to work in his body. He fell backward in agony of pain, crying: Poisoned! Poisoned!.
The fisherman tells the jinnee that he told him these stories because those people in the stories did not have mercy, so they were not spared by Allah. He tells the jinnee that he better spare him or Allah will kill you and show no mercy. (N.J. Dawood, pg.96) Now, treacherous jinnee, had the King spared the physician, he in turn would have spared by Allah. But you, if you had been willing to spare me, Allah would have been merciful to you. (N.J. Dawood, Pg.96) But you sought to kill me; therefore I will throw you back into the sea and leave you to perish in this bottle!
