- My lord, his throat is cut;That I did for him.... Fleance is 'scaped.
- In the dining hall in Macbeth's castle are Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Ross, Lennox, Lords, and Attendants. Immediately before Macbeth's feast commences, one of the murderers arrives. The murderer tells Macbeth of the success with killing Banquo and their failure of letting Fleance escape. Macbeth becomes paranoid and starts to envision the ghost of Banquo. Lady Macbeth is quick to try and calm Macbeth down.
- O proper stuff. This is the very painting of your fear.
- Then comes my fit again.
- The three witches are reunited on a thundering heath. Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft, is also on the heath, along with the witches. Hecate is angry at the witches for messing with Macbeth without consulting her. However, Hecate expresses her desire to help the witches when they meet Macbeth. She wants to help further his confusion.
- Why, how now, Hecate? You look angry.
- How did you dare to trade and traffic with Macbeth in riddles and affairs of death.
- But make amends now; get you gone, And at the pit of Acheron Meet me i' the morning. Thither he Will come to know his destiny.
- At the Forres palace, Lennox meets with another Lord. Both think there are too many similarities between the circumstances of King Duncan's and Banquo's deaths. Both find it odd how Donalbain and Malcolm were blamed for King Duncan's murder and that Fleance was blamed for Banquo's murder. The other Lord tells about how Macduff went to England to talk to Malcolm. Both Lennox and the other Lord pray for God's vengeance to fall upon Macbeth.
- May soon return to this our suffering country Under a hand accursed.
- I'll send my prayers with him.
