- I'm going to go to my doctor's appointment today.
- But it'll take you so long to get there! The closest doctor's office is 15 miles away!
- Gated Communities
- I'm sorry ma'am, but I can't let you inside. This is private property, no unauthorized individuals are allowed inside.
- Gentrification
- I'm sorry, kids, but we have to move out. The prices are getting so high that we can't afford to live here anymore.
- I'm so glad this neighborhood is wealthier and nicer!
- I know right! Sure, the housing prices went up, but that's not a problem for us!
- A rural area is a geographical area which is located away from cities and towns. Rural areas are commonly referred to as a countryside area for their distance away from towns, and the fact the land is surrounded by nature and wildlife. Typically, rural areas have low population densities, along with small settlements. In the visual above, it displays how important resources such as medical care, grocery stores, or shopping stores in general are located miles away from rural areas, as these places are located in urban areas.
- Greenbelt
- Isn't it great that the city made this new park? It's so refreshing to see some nature away from the city.
- I agree, this parks such a refreshing sight! Although house prices have gone up a bit, it's nice to know that our money is going towards this good cause!
- Gated communities are neighborhoods that are fenced-in with regulated entrance gates for people and vehicles. The primary goal of a gated community is to provide a secure environment through the use of security cameras and police. The secondary goal is to keep or raise the value of the homes. In the visual above, it displays how gated community securities will refuse to let unauthorized people past the gates. Plus, the people in background, inside the gates show how gated communities are typically aimed towards wealthy, upper class individuals, including wealthy business men or celebrities.

- It's great that we get to live in the CBD, there are so many large stores and places to go to!
- Yeah, it's great, but the housing prices are extremely high! I don't know if I can maintain this lifestyle.
- Gentrification is the process through which the character of a disadvantaged, poor urban region is transformed by wealthy individuals coming there, renovating housing, and attracting new enterprises. However, this process generally displaces present residents as the living costs increase, leaving many unable to live there anymore. In the visual above, this displays how poorer individuals can't afford to live in areas that have been affected by gentrification, causing them to be displaced from the neighborhood. On the other hand, rich people that had moved into the area are the primary cause for the rising prices, which is why these kinds of areas turn from lower class people living there to middle or upper class individuals moving in and taking over the area.
- Suburb
- I'm so glad we ended up moving to the suburb. Living in the center of the city costs so much! We're paying so much less here!
- A greenbelt is a ring of land that is kept as farmland, agricultural land, parks, or other forms of open space land in order to limit the sprawl of an urban area. Houses cannot be built on this land and these greenbelt areas tend to increase the housing prices in the cities they protect because they preserve land. This is a form of urban sustainability as it adds more nature green area to a city filled with buildings, workplaces, and other forms of architecture that remove this kind of land.
- The central business district refers to an area where a large number of large businesses and corporations are located. Other forms of entertainment and attractions are commonly located in this area. The CBD is situated in the center of urban cities and the cost of living in these areas in apartments or purchasing a home costs a large amount of money.
- A suburb is a residential community area that is located outside a major city center, along with a generally homogeneous population. The living costs and home values in these areas are much cheaper and reasonable compared to urban areas. In suburbs, residents typically travel via cars and automobile vehicles. This is because these vehicles tend to be the most efficient and effective forms of transportation in these more dispersed residential areas.
