- What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum?
- Yes, of course!Simply defined, it is a network of membranes inside a cell through which proteins and other molecules move
- What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum?
- It is a network of tubular membranes within the cytoplasm of the cell, occurring either with a smooth surface (smooth endoplasmic reticulum) or studded with ribosomes (rough endoplasmic reticulum), involved in the transport of materials.

- How do we tell the difference between the rough and smooth ER?
- The rough endoplasmic reticulum is largely made of sheets – a 2D array of flattened sacs that extend across the cytoplasm. The rough ER is characterized by the presence of membrane-bound ribosomes.The smooth endoplasmic reticulum comprises tube-like structures located near the cell periphery. These tubes sometimes branch forming a network that is reticular in appearance.
