Hongi hika was very angry at Ngati Whatua because he killed Hongi Hikas uncle and two brothers. Hongi Hika sailed away to England to trade with King George the 4th for muskets, historians believe that Hongi Hika got more than 300 muskets from King George the 4th.

The more people traded muskets the more devastating the war got because maori wanted revenge, land and self - defence, after the musket war more than 20,000 maori died in the war because the war was spread from the North Island to the South.
