The Minoan eruption was a catastrophic volcanic eruption that occurred around 1600 BCE on the Aegean island of Thera (also known as Santorini).
While it has been suggested that the damage attributed to these storms was caused by an earthquake after the Thera eruption, it has also been suggested that it was caused during a war with the Hyksos.
The massive eruption of the submarine volcano marked the beginning of the end of the Minoan civilization. The tsunami caused by the eruption wiped out the peaceful Minoan civilization that inhabited the island of Crete.
The powerful Minoan civilization, based on the nearby island of Crete, declined abruptly after Thera blew its top. Tsunamis caused by the eruption would have first and foremost overwhelmed its battle fleet and coastal villages.
