The Congo didn't become a independent nation until the 1960's (Britannica). The Congo started there journey to independence in 1908. Throughout this journey, poverty was a wide spread issue, and it still is today.
In 1908, The Congo started at the "Belgian Congo" because a colony called the "French Congo Belge" was in Africa , being ruled by Belgium all the way until June 30th, 1960. Before the Belgian Congo came around , the country was under a kings Domain. (Britannica)
The Belgian Congo was established by the Belgian Parliament to get rid of the last owned Congo free state, they got rid of the Congo Free state because of international rage over abuses. This was because of the lack of supervision and accountability over the Congo.

Who? The Congo & Belgium Colony. What? Belgium Colony taking over the Congo. When?1908 - 6/30/1960. Where? Africa. Why? Belgium colony took over because of international rage of abuse!
The Congo Struggled to get to independance because of international foreigners was scared of the congo! Internationals was scared of what the Congo Could do without any supervision or accountability being available.
