Climax: The climax starts when Mrs. Hutchinson draws the black dot herself. Realizing she's the one chosen for the ritual. she screams "It isn't fair, it isn't right," but the townspeople ignore her because they know although bad it's what they have to do to save the community.

Falling Action: In the falling action, The villagers coldly prepare to stone Tessie picking up the rocks that the kids were preparing at the story's start. The community that was once friendly and close at the beginning of the story begins to stone Mrs. Hutchinson to death without hesitation because they know it has to happen. Her protests are ignored, and even her own family and children join in the violent ritual, showing the deep meaning behind this tradition in This town. The crowd of townspeople becomes a mob, finishing off Tessie's fate. The brutal act is finished and now Tessie is dead.

Denouement: The story ends with the disturbing fact of the community going back to their normal routines as if nothing happened. After Mrs. Hutchinson is murdered the townspeople, including her own family, resume their actions of living a normal life. The black draw box is returned to the town hall, ready for next year when this is all repeated.
