The story begins with P.T Barnum as a poor young boy with his Dad trying to make money. Charity is wealthy with snobbish parents. They fall in love when they first laid eyes on eachother. Never EnoughClimax
The song reveals the inciting incident of the story by showing the starting of his success. It starts of by showing that the show is finally starting to succeed and saying that the show is starting to “come alive”. Barnum plans to create a place for unique individuals no matter how you look like, your race, and etc, you will be treated the same.
From Now OnFalling Action
This song contributes/shows conflict to the story by Philip wanting to be with Anne but Anne also wanting to but thinks she can’t. In the song Philip says "nothing can keep us apart" because he wants to be with Anne. Anne wants to be with him as well, but she feels that she will be treated differently which is why she says "everything can keep us apart". Philip and Anne want to be together but Anne is saying she can’t because people may judge if they were together. This is like with everyone in the circus, they're all different and are not treated the same.
The Greatest ShowResolution
This song contributes to reveal the climax because Jenny, she wants to be with Barnum even though he is already married and has kids with someone else. Since Barnum has been going on tours with Jenny and hasn't been caring about anything else. He has been obsessed with his fame.
This song contributes to the theme/lesson of the story by him starting to realize that he is treating everyone differently and realizing he is acting different because of fame. So, in this song he goes to apologize and change things that he has did wrong and from now on he will not be blinded by fame. His actions have hurt people like the people he chose for his circus and needs to apologize for what he’s done.
The circus can serve as a symbol of the film by all the unique individuals being who they are and following your dreams. It would stand for not changing who you are and following your dreams and not giving up whenever it comes to your ups or downs. The whole reason Barnum created the circus was for his family, for people to be happy and to have a place for unique individuals where they can feel like they belong and show their talents/uniqueness. He had ups and downs in his life and still got through it and followed his dreams.
