The Battle of New Orleans was a very unnecessary war for both the U.S. and Great Britain because the war happened after the Treaty of Ghent was already signed. This war was a major loss for the British, resulting in over 2000 casualties, versus the mere but still tragic 71 casualties that the U.S. had. The U.S. victory was led by Major General Andrew Jackson.

Good thing they didn't notice me...
BURN IT ALL DOWN!!!
The British burned parts of Washington D.C., primarily the capitol building and the president's mansion. Dolly Madison, the wife of James Madison, had saved national treasures such as a portrait of George Washington.

Finally... No more war... but no Canada
Treaty of Ghent
The Treaty of Ghent officially ended the War of 1812. It was signed on December 24, 1814 by both Britain and America. Since the war resulted in a tie, Britain gave the U.S. back their territory, impressed sailors, and stopped interfering with the shipping and trade. In return, the U.S. didn't take Canada and restored territory.
