- Quinn receives a phone call meant for a detective named Paul Auster. He is told to follow a man named Peter Stillman.Quinn decides to act as the detective and follow stilman.

- Quinn continues to follow and watch Stillman's moves. He read on him and followed him to gain as much information as possible.He keeps distance to not be caught althought he has a plan if seen. He knows Stillmans wife is respon sible for the ac tions
- page 55"With about half the passengers now gone, Quinn had his first sight of Stillman."His hair was white, and it layed on his head uncombed, sticking up here and there in tufts."Quinn follows Stillman after finally finding him

- Stillman eventually realizes Quinn is following him. He doesn't react but plays along and lets Quinn continue.
- Quinn becomes so immersed in his detective role that he isn't careful and gets caught. He continues to follow Stillman and track him almost as an obsession.
