- In the 70's schools, restaurants, bathrooms, buses, etc. were all segregated. My grandmother Sha Hopwell never interacted with any black people, besides a man that worked for her family. She didn't know his name or anything about him, but he was always nice to her and had a great relationship with her father.
- My Grandma was confused why there was so much discrimination towards black people. She lived in the south and they taught about the civil war differently. They said nothing about slavery. They told everyone that it was about trading and unfair use of resources.
- There were many riots and protesting that my grandma witnessed.

- In Her Junior year the principal of her high school called a whole school meeting
- I have received word that next year black students will be attending our school.

- Many people were upset about this decision.
- After high school she moved to Mississippi. There she noticed more discrimination included hate groups like the KKK.
- I still notice discrimination in my town nowadays, but we have come a long way from the 70's. Right now in office we have a very good Black Mayor even though some people don't like it.
