At the age of nineteen, Edmond Dantés seems to have the perfect life. He is about to become the captain of a ship, He is engaged to a beautiful and kind young woman named Mercedes, and he is well liked by almost everyone who knows him.

However, this perfect life arouses dangerous jealousy among some of Dantes's supposed friends. Dantes' initial success is sent by Danglars, the treasurer of Dantes's ship; Dantés' fiancée is the object of Fernand Mondego's love and covetousness for his love success, and much luckier in life than he is simply envied by his neighbor Caderousse.
Abate Faria
Dantes was accused of treason in a letter written by these three men. On his wedding day, he was arrested for his alleged crimes. During his time in prison, he befriended an old man named Abate Faria, who taught him a wide variety of knowledge and revealed to him the existence of a great treasure hidden on the island of Montecristo.
After Faria's death, Dantès escapes from prison, the treasure has been located by Dantes and he reinvents himself as the mysterious and wealthy Count of Monte Cristo. Through the use of his new identity and his wealth, revenge is being plotted by Dantès against those who caused him suffering and ruin.
Disguising himself as an Italian priest who goes by the name of Abbé Busoni, he travels back to Marseille and visits Caderousse, who is now struggling to make a living as an innkeeper.From Caderousse, he learns the details of the plot to frame it. Furthermore, Dantés discovers that his father died of grief in his absence and that Mercedes married Fernand Mondego. More frustratingly, he learns that both Danglars and Mondego have become rich and powerful and are living happily in Paris.
As Dantes exacts revenge on each of his enemies, he plunges them into despair and suffering, destroying their lives and reputations.
