Papa, and when will the 'long table' be set?
I don't know yet. Alfredo is not very specific, but I understand Esperanza wants it to be next month.
I'm sorry, I thought...
That is nothing, each time I was about to correct you, but I remembered a similar experience I had once before.
Dead Stars by Paz Marquez Benitez
Up here I find--something--
No; youth--its spirit--
And heart's desire.
Are you so old?
Amusement?
The story begins with Carmen and Don Julian discussing why Alfredo hasn't married his fiancee, Esperanza.
Mr. Salazar, I wish to congratulate you for your approaching wedding.
Whatever my shortcomings, and no doubt they are many in your eyes, I have never gone out of my way, of my place, to find a man.
Don Julian brings Alfredo and he meets Julia, and their relationship grows over time as the number of interactions between them increases.
Alfredo tries to express his feelings for Julia. However, because he is still engaged to Esperanza, he begins to doubt what should be done.
Julia reveals she knows about the engagement and Esperanza makes him choose, revealing that she knows what's going on between him and Julia.
Why don't you tell me you are tired of me?
Alfredo chose to marry Esperanza because of his fear of public opinion.
