Boycott the buses
The start of Montgomery Bus Boycott started on December 1, 1955, when an old African American woman named Rosa Parks did not want to get up from her seek for a white man.
Racially segregated seating on buses violates the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
The 14th Amendment
Rosa Parks ended up arrested and fined for not getting out of the bus seat which made many other African Americans upset or angry. People then started to put up posters to boycott buses and even preached at churches.
African Americans would protest against buses until they get equal bus rights as white people. For transportation, they either walked, used carpools, or used African American taxi drivers.
African Americans finally got rights when they learned that it violated the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. That amendment, adopted in 1868 following the U.S.Civil War,granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States—including formerly enslaved people—and guaranteed all citizens “equal protection of the laws.”
