- This scene was important because this is where we first learn about Viola's perspective about the duke and other men. This is also a scene where we learn that her brother may have drowned from a ship crash that she was on as well, but was fortunately saved. This is the reason that Viola wants to ignore all of the men that wants her hand in marriage. The captiant also helps the lady with her thinking and problems.
