- Mama and Beneatha were cleaning the house while Ruth was gone, suspecting that she was pregnant, when suddenly, the phone rings.

- Beneatha picks up the phone, obviously giddy about the guest coming over. Mama is not pleased to have a guest coming over with the house looking like a mess.

- Asagai is an African boy Beneatha met on campus. Beneath wants Mama to act "normal" around him.

- Ruth comes back from the doctor and find out she is two months pregnant. She cries because she may not even be able to afford having another child.

- Asagai comes in and gives Beneatha a robe and a headdress. Beneatha wants him to help her find her identity and ethnicity. Asagai urges Beneatha to be more natural and views her as ambitious.

- Every since Mama's husband died, they have been waiting for a 10,000 dollar check to arrive. Walter selfishly wants the money for an alcohol store. He has no empathy for what other people wants the money for and that Mama is overwhelmed with the plethora of cash.
