  • Today I’m going to talk about the indigenous culture in Melbourne
  • What does “Koorie” mean?
  •  Comes from the word for “people” in the indigenous language of the coastal groups of central and northern New South Wales
  • It is a group of self description of many indigenous people of indigenous descent living here in Victoria.
  • For the Kulin Nation, Melbourne has always been an important meeting place for events of social, educational, sporting and cultural significance. Today we are proud to say that Melbourne is a significant gathering place for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • The Boonwurrung and Woiwurrung are the traditional owner groups of the area we now call Melbourne.
  •  You can take tours of urban experiences around the city of Melbourne. You can go to museums such as Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural centre.   You can visit at restaurant in fitzroy called Mabu Mabu which is an Indigenous cultured restaurant that has great taste
  • You could try the stir fry Fried Native Wallaby or some kangaroo slider. Some great choices of Native Australian (not actually kangaroo or wallaby)
  • LFLF is a foundation for literacy “Literacy For Life Foundation”. It is a week that celebrates the History, Culture and achievements of aboriginal and Torres strait Islander people.
