Have you ever thought about how we don’t blend in?
Survival Pressures
WATCH OUT, FOX ON THE HUNT, HE JUST CAUGHT THAT CHICKEN
Need for Adaptation
THE NEXT DAY
*monch monch monch* yup *monch* I’m tired of running.
The chicken population of 4 in this area started out as all white.
Adaption
We really don’t, we are so exposed to pray!
Due to the inability to blend with the environment, this made chicken easy fox prey.
Natural Selection
LET’S GET OUT OF HERE!
The remaining three chicken in the environment needed a way to blend in so that future offspring could also survive in the area.
New Population
LATER THAT NIGHT
We need a way to blend in better.
The flowers in the environment changed the feathers of the chicken to the same color as the flowers.
These flowers are changing the pigment in your feathers! I’ll eat them too!
NO WAY! This is how we will survive!
Two of the three chicken ate the blue flower and are now holders of the blue feather trait. This means when they breed, the population will remain blue. The remaining white chicken was naturally selected as prey because it was easy to see.
My pigment changed too! We can blend into flowers now!
NO MORE RUNNING!
The fox can no longer see the blue chicken at night, resulting in the fox naturally selecting not to hunt there anymore with the false perception that there is no more prey to hunt on.
The fox can’t even see us, we blend perfectly!
*monch monch monch* yup *monch* I’m tired of running.
NO WAY! This is how we will survive!
