- The Cell Theory
- Wow! These look similar to cellular compartments of monks. I shall call them cells!
- Robert Hooke examined very thin slices of cork and saw multitudes of tiny pores that he remarked looked like the walled compartments a monk would live in.
- These cells divide in a process I shall call mitosis.
- Walther Flemming published his findings and concluded that cells divide in a process called mitosis
- All plant tissues are compsoed of cells and they all develop from a single cell. My conclusion is that the cell is the basic building block of all plants.
- Matthias Schleiden declared that the cell is the basic building block of all plants.
- Theodor Schwann reached the same conclusion as Matthias Schleiden about animal tissues being composed of cells. He and Matthias Schleidden worked together to detail the first two theories.
