They are also trying to include a "fart tax" in New Zealand which would make milk more expensive. Then would cause people to purchase cheaper milk which comes from Saudi Arabia. They emit even higher levels of methane.
In 2022 methane emissions from agriculture hit 142 million tons. which is triple the amount from the oil sector.

They also want to create a tax in New Zealand where agriculture makes up more than half of the harmful gasses. The tax would be on the famers based on soil used and the amount of animals they have housed.
This would be a hard feat push elsewhere in places like Germany and Italy where they are pushing back. Due to the fact that they make up 1/4 of Europe's beef production

They are trying to find other ways to not have to be taxed. By making feed additives that would make cows burp less. Also separating liquids from solids in the milk production and reduce methane emissions by a fifth. Yet this can not be done at every farm because it is pricey.
This conversation has to be to inform consumers and other farmers about how agriculture is also playing a role in climate change. By adding more methane into the atmosphere. With it now being know we can find more solutions to help decrease this amount in the coming years.
