The story My favorite chaperone is about a girl named Maya, and her family who moved to the U.S from Kazakhstan. Her parents are going through a culture shock which makes Maya and her brother Nurzhan's school life harder.

While Maya was in her language arts class, the vice-principal came in the class and told Maya she was wanted in the office

While Maya and her friend was waiting for the bus she sees two other people from the wrestling team that her friend likes and they started playing around for fun. Mayas dad came to pick her up and he saw this and got really mad. He said that she was a disgrace to her family.
Resolution :
While Nurzhan and Maya were eating, Maya's mom walked into the room and went to Maya.
When Nurzhan Maya were eating, their mom came into the room and walked up to Maya. She gave Maya a small package that was covered in tissues and when Maya opened it, she was shocked. It was a gold bracelet and her mom wanted her to wear it for the dance. Maya's grandma gave it to Maya's mom when she was 16 so she wanted to pass it down to Maya.
Maya got to dance with Daniel and Nurzhan went to the bathroom while they were dancing to give them privacy. Maya was happy that Nurzhan was such a great chaperone.
