- In 1935 he was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. What got him this nomination was his role as father of the Argentine Antiwar Pact of 1933, which he also used as a means to mediate peace between Paraguay and Bolivia in 1935.A year later he won the prize and was Latin America's first peace prize laureateImmediately following the announcement of his prize, he was elected President of the Assembly of the League of Nations, solidifying his status as a world-class statesman.While the armistice was signed in 1935, he remained a key figure in the prolonged negotiations that led to the permanent peace treaty ending the Chaco War on July 21, 1938.
- From 1932 and 1935 was the Chaco War Mediation. He organized and presided over the international mediation committee which consisted of the U.S., Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay. He did this to end the bloody conflict between Bolivia and Paraguay.On June 12, 1935 he successfully brokered the Chaco War armistice, which stopped the fighting and paved the way for a permanent peace treaty.

- After retiring from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1938, he returned to the University of Buenos Aires.A few years later he served ass the Rector(president) of the University from 1941 to 1943.He continued his academic career as a professor of economics and constitutional law until his final retirement in 1946.During World WWII, he eventually moved away from his earlier isolationist tendencies, becoming friendlier toward the U.S. and supporting the Allied cause.
