I'm so glad you showed up! I have a great idea for a research project that I'm about to start. Would you like to help me with it?

Sure! So what theory are you using for your framework?
Theory? What do you mean? I'm ready to get started. Why would I need to use a theory?
You should be using some form of theory to guide your research process and to serve as a foundation. It should be like blueprints for a house.
Think with me...if you wanted to build a house, you would need to have a solid foundation to ground it and to guide you in the direction that you want to go. Otherwise, who knows what kind of house you would end up with?
The same goes for your research project. You have to have guidelines that anchors your lit review, methods, and analysis. It involves thinking critically and serves as your rationale for why your're doing the research in the first place.
What if I see that during the research process, I need to alter my plans and go in another direction based on what I find?
You can always make changes along the way - you just need to have it grounded in a theory. Theory is something that needs to work for you...not just be present.
