- Three witches meet upon a storm in Scotland to determine where to meet Macbeth after a bloody battle.
- Scene 4
- Fair is foul, and foul is fair, Hover through the fog and filthy air.
- At the battlefield's camp, King Duncan of Scotland encounters a captain who reports that Macbeth has defeated the enemy. As a reward, Macbeth is pronounced as the new Thane of Cawdor.
- Scene 5
- On their way back from the battle, Macbeth and Banquo run into the witches, who foretell that Macbeth will become the new Thane of Cawdor and will become the king hereafter he also discovers the prophecy has come true he also has the idea of killing Duncan although doesn't like it. Banquo asks for his own prophecy, learning that his children will become the future king although he will not.

- At the king's palace, Duncan honors Macbeth after the execution of the current Thane of Cawdor. He announces that he will be visiting Macbeth's castle and pronounces his son, Malcom, as his successor.
- At the castle, Lady Macbeth recieves Macbeth's letter about the witches' prophecy. She fears that her husband is too good to seize the king's throne by murder and calls on the evil spirits to assist in her murderous plan.
- The raven himself is hoarse That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan Under my battlements. Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full Of direst cruelty.
- Lady Macbeth pledges allegiance to Duncan while secretly intending to have him killed at the hands of her husband.
