The Tragedy of Julius Caesar

Storyboard Tekst

  • Act I: Scene ii
  • "Beware the ides of March!" (I:ii:16)
  • Act II: Scene i
  • Act III: Scene i
  • "Et tu Brute?"
  • In this scene Antony and Caesar are at a race to celebrate their defeat of  Pompey. While waiting for the race to staart a Soothsayer runs over and screams at them. The Soothsayer says "Beware the ides of March!" (I:ii:16). After hearing this Caesar does not listen to him and goes about his day.
  • Act IV: Scene iii
  • In this scene Brutus is trying to decide if he should join the conspirators and kill Caesar. While he is out there he goes through the options in his head.  He says " He would be crowned./ How that might change his nature, there's no question." (III: i: 12-13). What he means by that is he is scared that if Caesar has a crown he could become dangerous. After this speech he decides to join the conspirators.
  • Act V: Scene v
  • During this scene the conspirators surround Caesar. Caesar doesn't really think much of it at the time until Casca gives the call that they should start stabbing. After that all the conspirators start to stab Caesar. When Brutus stabs him Caesar looks at Brutus and says " Et tu Brute?" (III: i: 79).  This shows that Caesat was very upset and surprised that even his friend Brutus would kill him.
  • Theme
  • During this scene Brutus is sitting in his tent while everyone else is asleep. Suddenly the ghost of Caesar appears and Brutus is very confused. The ghost of Caeasar says that he is an evil spirit. When Brutus asks why he is here Caesar says " To tell thee thou shall see me at Philippi." (IV: iii: 283). This causes Brutus to wake everyone else in the tent up and demand that they start marching to Philippi immediatly.
  • In this scene Brutus realizes that there is no hope for him and Cassius's team. So, instead of being taken as a slave he convinces one of his friends to hold his sword while he runs into it. After he kills himself Octavius and Antony find him. When they find him Antony says " This was the noblest Roman of them all ./ All the conspirators save only he/ Did that they did in envy of great Caesar..." ( V: v:68-70).
  • I believe that the theme of this play is to not let ambition and greed take over you. For example, in this play Brutus struggles with deciding to kill Caesar because even though he has not done anything wrong yet he is becoming too ambitious. This makes Brutus think he could become a danger to Rome. Brutus says " What means the shouting? I do fear the people/ Choose Caesar for their king" ( I: ii: 79). That means he is afraid that Caesar will not be a good king because he's too greedy.
