  • John Deere, the blacksmith who founded Deere and Company, was born in Rutland, VT in 1804. In 1837, Deere developed and manufactured the first commercial cast-steel plow, revolutionizing the farming industry.
  • The capital of Vermont is Montpelier. Some other major cities include Burlington, Essex, South Burlington, Colchester, and Rutland.
  • Vermont's nickname is the Green Mountain State. Its state motto is, "Freedom and Unity".
