- "Then, as if waking from a deep sleep, he slapped my father with such force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours". (Wiesel 39)This is man vs man because the german soldier just smacked Elie's father right in front of him.
- Man vs Nature
- "Twenty more steps. If I was going to kill myself, this was the time. Our column had only some fifteen steps to go. I bit my lips so that my father would not hear my teeth chattering". (Wiesel 33)This is Man vs Self because Elie is contemplating if he either jumps in a burning pit or just kills himself on the electric barbed wire.
- Man vs society
- "Why, but why would I bless Him? Every fiber in me rebelled. Because He caused thousands of children to burn in His mass graves"? This is Man vs God because Elie is turning his back on God because he didn't save all of the children that got killed.
- The Blockälteste distributed double rations of bread and margarine for the road. (Weisel 83)This is Man vs Nature because they are giving Elie double rations for their last day.
- "All Jews, outside! Hurry!" They were followed by Jewish police, who, their voices break- ing, told us: "The time has c o m e ... y o u must leave all t h i s ... " (Weisel 16)This is Man vs Society because the Hungarian police were taking all of the jews away from their homes.
